New Accessible Pool Stairs
Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre’s newly delivered accessible pool stairs is making access to the indoor 25m pool at the Centre easier! Swimmers of all types will benefit from the innovative design of pool entry steps, including the elderly, arthritic, injured, expectant mothers, or anyone who is uncomfortable with, or has difficulty using vertical swimming pool ladders.
“These stairs are excellent for anyone who is a little nervous about entering or exiting the pool using traditional vertical swimming pool ladders,” says Centre Manager, Emma Gibb. “In addition to our current pool ramp access these stairs will allow AQUA Aerobics participants to enter safely and comfortably,” adds Ms Gibb.
Designed by Para Mobility, the pool stairs required no deck modifications or alterations to install. Specifically designed for the 25m pool, the stairs are portable and can be placed in and out of the pool as many times as needed - safely and easily by its removable dolly wheels.
The Centre, managed by YMCA NSW, also offers accessible change rooms and showers, as well as a newly installed hoist with portable accessible change table.
Ku-ring-gai Mayor Jennifer Anderson said Ku-ring-gai Council was a leader in making its new facilities accessible to all users.
“Since it opened in 2014, the Ku-ring-gai Fitness & Aquatic Centre has installed additional facilities and provided classes for all members of our community to be able to enjoy spending time there.”
The new stairs were recently ‘tested’ by an aqua aerobics group who gave them the thumbs up!
