Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre set to open on June 13

The Y NSW is pumped to reopen doors at Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre from Saturday, June 13, creating opportunities for communities to connect, stay active and reimagine health and wellness goals in the new normal.

Following the NSW Government’s easing of restrictions, both indoor and outdoor pools and the gym will open from June 13, with important new changes in place to help members and staff stay safe while staying fit.

“We are opening with the support of our incredible partner Ku-ring-gai Council in what are still uncertain times and want to reassure our patrons that these facilities will be following all NSW and Federal health advice with extensive social distancing and sanitisation measures in place,” said Y Area Manager Brooke Atkins.

“KFAC is a place for everyone to enjoy and stay fit but more than that, it’s an important place for community connection.

“We are very proud of our staff for their commitment to keeping this great community asset maintained throughout closure, which has allowed us to open as soon as possible for the community after such challenging times.”

The Y has installed a range of COVID Safe updates for the safety of our members and staff, including sneeze screens, social distancing floor markings, more hand sanitiser stations, increased cleaning and hygiene signage. All staff are receiving additional COVID Safe training and access to the centre will be limited. As per NSW Government restrictions, the following restrictions will apply:

  • The number of people in the facility must not exceed more than one person per four square metres (including staff)
  • A maximum of 18 swimmers in the Outdoor Pool (three per lane)
  • A maximum of 24 swimmers in the Indoor Pool (three per lane)
  • A maximum of 8 swimmers in the Program pool
  • Restricted access to change rooms (patrons encouraged to shower at home)

Due to these ongoing restrictions, memberships will remain on pause and a casual online booking system has been launched for customers, which can be accessed here: https://www.ymcansw.org.au/centres/ku-ring-gai-fitness-aquatic-centre/book/.

All bookings will be 45mins long, with the Y completing a sanitation session after every session. The centre will open from 5.30am – 9pm Monday – Friday, and 7am – 6pm Saturday and Sunday. At this stage, the Y is unable to offer group fitness classes and Learn to Swim until further notice and the café and crèche remains closed.
