YMCA Penrith has transformed their Health Club with a massive upgrade including state-of-the-art equipment and rubber flooring. The investment is a major one, but absolutely necessary within an increasingly competitive health club environment.
“I think a lot of people don’t know what to think when we say they should join their local Y. By upgrading our health club we are demonstrating our commitment to the overall health of our community. It gives busy parents a reason to stay, and get fit while their children participate in our existing classes like gymnastics, parkour, rock climbing or any number of classes,” said Samantha Cosgrove, Centre Manager at YMCA Penrith.
According to a recent report by NSW Health, a greater number of people in the Penrith LGA are overweight or obese compared to the NSW average. The implications of obesity are a greater chance of developing diabetes, heart disease or some cancers.
Other factors impacting Penrith are extreme temperatures preventing exercise, reliance on cars, convenience foods and takeaway meals, the socio economic status of some residents, sedentary recreational activities and low consumption of both fruits and vegetables.
“The upgrade to the gym will utilize the space more efficiently and give the overall look a fresh and updated appearance which will benefit our fitness environment,” said Lisa Nicklin, of Penrith.
“The upgrade will benefit my family by giving us more choice of equipment to use and give us a better and more enjoyable place to work out,” said Naomi Murphy, of Penrith.
Local residents are invited to an Open Week at the Centre from Monday 2 February to Sunday 8 February, with free entry to the new health club. Additionally, YMCA Penrith is demonstrating a commitment to a healthier Penrith by having dedicated staff to deliver free Healthy Family Action Plans to visitors on a first come first serve basis.
