Hundreds of residents have flocked to the Y NSW Family Fun Day at Port Macquarie Olympic Pool on Saturday 14 May, with more than 200 locals enjoying perfect weather and a big day of fun activities.
It was an official big Y welcome after the not-for-profit organisation began managing four public swimming pools owned by Port Macquarie Hastings Council. The industry-leading aquatics management provider started serving the local community on Anzac Day.

Families made the most of free entry, a sausage sizzle, plenty of give-aways and an inflatable obstacle course.
“The weather was on our side and it turned out to be a beautiful day for us to officially welcome the local community and let them know how excited we are to be serving them,” said Alisa Wells, Area Manager of Recreation and Camps.
The Port Macquarie Olympic Pool temperature was sitting at a delightful 27 degrees for swimmers and there was no shortage of takers for the popular inflatable Aqua Scramble.
“Today’s event clearly demonstrates the Y’s ability to connect with community, and their understanding of the importance of servicing regional communities such as ours,” said Adam Roberts, Port Macquarie Hastings Council Deputy Mayor.
The Y has been entrusted with the operation of four special pools at Wauchope, Laurieton, Kendall and the Port Macquarie Olympic Pool.
The weekend was also an important opportunity to celebrate the first weekend of National Families Week, and reinforce the theme that families are the bedrock of the community.
“Family is central to what we do here at The Y, we’re here for family; the diversity of families within our community is what makes us The Y,” said Wells.
“One of the biggest things is the community impact, being a for-purpose organisation we want to ensure the impact we have is actually serving the community more broadly than just the pool facilities, in that we aim to reinvest a portion of the profit share back into community programs.”
The Y NSW will be introducing programs for people of all ages, people living with a disability, and for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
“Obviously the Y is a very professional organisation, they focus on building communities and it’s fantastic to have them supporting us in all four pools that we have in the region,” said Deputy Mayor Roberts.
