Local gymnast Emma Jane Nedov is representing Australia at the World Championships this week in Nanning, China from 3 October to 12 October 2014.
Emma left for China on 27 September to join her team of seven Australian gymnasts, chosen after an intensive week-long trial in Canberra earlier this month. Emma competed in beam, bars, floor, and vault. With a final score of first in beam and second all-around.
"We are immensely proud of Emma and delighted to see her compete at these World Championships," said Nina Milanova, Gymnastics Program Manager at YMCA Epping.
Emma has trained at YMCA Epping for the previous 12 years, amassing more than 20 medals at both National and International gymnastic events. "Emma has shown exceptional skills in beam, and there is no telling how far she might go," said Zhang Zhen, Beam Gymnastics Coach at YMCA Epping. YMCA Epping had an Olympian in 1983, and Emma is the first gymnasts since then to attend a World Championship, giving her the potential to compete at the next Olympic Games in Brazil 2016. Emma currently trains on beam at YMCA Epping with Coach Zhang Zhen.
