St Ives Gymnasts, Jessica Wye and Kathryn Ramsay have qualified for the Australian National Championships to be held in Melbourne on 23 May 2016.
Both gymnasts are members of the Competitive Gymnastics Program at YMCA St Ives in Porters Lane. “This is Jessie’s fourth Nationals and the third for Kathryn,” says YMCA St Ives head coach, Maegan Rose. “But what makes this one extra special is that both girls will be representing NSW, in the level ten team, for the first time together”.
Over 400 gymnasts are currently enrolled the YMCA St Ives’ Gymnastics program. This well established centre runs classes for all ages and capabilities. “Our Kindergym classes cater for 18 month to 5 year olds and is a great way to develop fundamental movement skills, while the recreational program focuses on teaching foundation gymnastics skills. Our Levels classes are for our competitive gymnasts and follows the National program as set by Gymnastics Australia”, says Adam Rose, the Gymnastics Manager.
Jessie, aged 17, placed 4th overall at the recent Women’s Gymnastics Senior State Championships, in Rooty Hill, and was third on both the floor and bars. She started gymnastics at YMCA St Ives in 2005 classes when she was only 6 and quickly progressed into the Levels program.
Kathryn began gymnastics at YMCA Epping at the age of 6 and after 11 years moved to St Ives where she has been for 2 years. Kathryn was placed third overall and was first on beam at the Senior State Championships.
Both girls are now focused on their training for the nationals and are looking forward to representing NSW and YMCA St Ives in Melbourne.
