Our Practice

The Y NSW has listened to families and understand the importance of building strong trusting partnerships. We recognise the benefit to parents and children of the provision of high quality Outside School Hours Care and the difference it can make to a family’s life.

At our services, we are committed to providing a safe and enriching place for children to have inspired minds and active bodies. Our experienced Educators design programs to meet the “My Time Our Place” framework and are tailored specifically to each of the children attending the service.

We focus on ideas that will enrich our daily program for children and families and offer a range of learning experiences based on children’s interests. We listen to children’s voices and integrate their aspirations into our program planning. The daily program consists of activities that cater to the different learning needs of the children, including play-based learning, sensory and nature experiences, creative and cultural arts activities, outdoor sports, open-ended play and exploration.

The opportunity to relax, make new friends and develop social networks outside of the school classroom is also actively encouraged as “the framework draws on conclusive international evidence that children learn and develop the skills and behaviours required for active citizenship in a wide range of settings”. (My Time Our Place, 2009)

Children’s involvement in planning activities and menus is supported and welcomed, parents are encouraged to be active participants of the OSHC community and Educators seek suggestions from families in creating culturally relevant experiences.

We are accredited by the Australian Childhood Foundation as a child-safe organisation. The Y NSW is a benchmark organisation for best practice processes to keep children and young people safe. All our Educators undergo a rigorous recruitment process and must have a current Working with Children Check, criminal history check, first aid and child protection qualifications.

Regular professional development ensures that all our Educators are compliant with regulatory requirements and work to best practice standards. Services are licensed and monitored to ensure compliance with the National Quality Framework and undergo Ratings and Assessment administered by the ECECD.

Children are encouraged to learn new skills, form friendships and unwind after school in a supportive, inclusive and safe environment with the Y NSW. Whatever your interests, all children are valued members of our OSHC community. The Y NSW OSHC is a place where you belong and are included.
