Celebrating International Day of People with Disability
Every year on 3 December, people around the world take part in the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). It is a day to celebrate the contributions and achievements of people with disability and promote awareness, understanding and acceptance in our community. This year, the theme is 'united in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for, with and by persons with disabilities', and that is precisely what today is all about.
By listening to the experiences of people with disability and recognising their unique talents, skills and interests, we can challenge our own perceptions about disability and make positive changes in the community.
Ability Programs at the Y
At the Y, we have been delivering incredible inclusive programs that make a difference in the lives of people with a disability for many years. We try to ensure all of our mainstream programs and services are accessible and cater for people with people of all abilities. However, we also offer specific programs where we can specifically cater to the needs of people. Two of our most successful programs in this space are SwimAbility and GymAbility.
