At the Y, we believe that all Australians need skills to keep them safe on our waterways. Progress through our swimming lesson levels as you gain confidence and develop skills.
For babies and toddlers aged from six months onwards, we offer Aqua Babies classes that help to introduce them to the water in a fun and safe environment. These classes focus on building confidence and developing basic swimming skills like floating and kicking.
From three years old, children can move into our Tadpole, Goldfish and Flying Fish classes, where they will learn more advanced swimming techniques such as freestyle and backstroke. These classes also help to develop water safety awareness.
School-aged kids aged five years and older can move onto our Octopus, Sardine, Salmon, Tuna, Dolphin and Shark classes, which aim to teach children how to swim confidently and safely in various situations. These classes cover everything from basic stroke techniques to survival skills, such as what to do if caught in a rip tide.
When you sign your child up for swimming lessons at the Y, you can expect a nationally accredited comprehensive program to teach them the skills they need to be safe in and around water.
Our experienced and certified instructors will work with your child to help them develop a strong foundation of swimming skills, including how to stay afloat, move through the water, and exit the pool safely. We also strongly emphasise water safety, so your child will learn important information such as to never swim alone, do not enter head first unless in a pool that has a safe diving area, and that everyone has to obey the lifeguards' directions.
