Today marks 10 years since the Y NSW began operating Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre (KFAC), and we're thrilled to have reached this incredible milestone!
Ten years ago, Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre was transformed from a facility dating back to the 1970s into a modern, high-quality recreation hub for the local community. The purpose-built centre now has heated indoor pools, a water playground, health club, group fitness studio, crèche, a café and a 50m outdoor pool. The Y NSW has operated the centre in partnership with Ku-ring-gai Council since it opened in 2014.
Centre Manager Max Olsson said membership had grown to its highest numbers in the 10 years that the Y has managed the facility.
“This year, we have more than 4000 members across our fitness and aquatics programs. Our fitness membership has also grown by 33 per cent in the past two years,” Max said.
Last year, the centre was also awarded a 99 per cent five-star safety rating by Royal Lifesaving NSW, ranking joint first place in Sydney for safety in public pools.
The centre's 10th anniversary is also an opportunity to recognise team members from KFAC who have served the community for a decade. Cleaner Mano Chandrasenan, Kiosk Supervisor Wendy Macpherson and Operations Coordinator Billy Bridle all began their journey with the Y in 2014.
Billy said it was an honour to be part of the Y team serving the local community.
“It’s the people that I work with, I think. I’m really lucky to have worked with my daughter for the last nine years. My other daughter also worked here, so we’ve definitely got a family element here at KFAC in particular. So I think it’s the people, the community that we work in. You get to know everybody,” he said.
“To make 10 years is pretty special, especially with my daughter. It’s not something I planned to do, it just kind of happened. It’s the first time I’ve worked anywhere for 10 years.”
Billy said it was an honour “to be able to give back to the community and serve them.”
Thank you to all our team members at KFAC who have helped us reach this amazing milestone!
