Central Coast skaters are invited to carve up their gnarliest tricks this weekend at YMCA NSW’s National Skateboarding Qualifier at Bato Yard Skate Park.
The top five skateboarders from each State Qualifier will earn their spot at the Australian Skateboarding League National Final, to be held next month in Melbourne. Boarders will have their chance to be crowned NSW Champion in four divisions – 12 and under; 16 and under; and opens male and female.
YMCA NSW Youth Co-Ordinator Laura Eason said in addition to cash prizes, skateboarders would also have the chance at this Sunday’s Bateau Bay event to score points towards their international ranking.
“The Australian Skateboarding League offers amateur skateboarders the opportunity to test their skills at the highest level and YMCA NSW is excited to be able to help young people across NSW reach their potential,” Ms Eason said.
“Skaters from around the State and the Central Coast are encouraged to showcase their best ollies, switch flips and feeble grinds and make their mark against some of NSW’s best amateur skateboarders.”
As part of the two-day program, BMX riders, scooter enthusiasts and skaters are invited to showcase their skills at Saturday’s Skate Park Leagues Competition.
This event focuses on embracing the skate park culture and bringing the community together. There will also be lots of free giveaways and prizes to be won.
“Skate park events are a great avenue to encourage recreation and empower young people to be happier, healthier and better connected to their community,’” Ms Eason said.
Participants can pre-register online or sign up on the day. Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. YMCA NSW is proud to be an official partner with the Central Coast Council.
