Looking for something fun and educational to keep the kids busy this weekend?
YMCA NSW and Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) invite you to attend the launch of the Respect the River program this Sunday at Camden War Memorial Pool.
Nationally, rivers, creeks and streams are the leading location for drowning in Australia, with many people underestimating the dangers.
Nearly three quarters (74%) of drowning deaths in rivers were locals who drowned within 100km of their place of residence.[i]
Respect the River is an open water survival program which aims to increase awareness of the dangers associated with a range of aquatic environments and promote safe behaviours.
YMCA NSW CEO Leisa Hart said: “YMCA NSW is delighted to be a part of the Respect the River’s Launch at Camden War Memorial Pool. Drowning can happen in pools, at beaches or even rivers and this is why it’s so important that families understand the dangers and how to respond in an emergency situation. In partnership with Royal Life Saving Society we’ll be running water safety workshops and CPR demonstrations to help make this community rescue prepared. I encourage families to drop by and learn some new lifesaving skills and check out the other fun activities for the kids on Sunday.
There will also be face painting, jumping castles, pool inflatables, sausage sizzle and more.
The event is supported by Camden Council.
