The Y NSW Continues its Basketball Legacy

26 Jun 2024 - Recreation

With a long-standing commitment to supporting young people and fostering a love for the game of basketball, the Y NSW is thrilled to announce that it has acquired Junior Basketball Academy.

Junior Basketball Academy is a wonderful basketball coaching business for young people aged five to 14 years. Junior Basketball will form part of the Y NSW’s sports and recreation offerings.

The Y has a remarkable history with the sport of basketball having invented the game in 1891 and since supported it globally.

"As we strive to enrich the lives of our community and young people, I'm excited to announce the acquisition of Junior Basketball Academy by the Y NSW. This marks a significant milestone in our commitment to fostering active opportunities for young people to be active and engaged in our community,” explained the Y NSW CEO Rob Kennaugh.

“Junior Basketball Academy aligns seamlessly with our mission to enhance the wellbeing of young people and will enable our organisation to expand its offerings and social impact. Importantly, it also embodies values closely aligned with those of the Y NSW: Safety, Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility,” he continued.

The new business is currently operating at 12 public and private venues across Sydney and supports players in basketball skills development, coaching, and games through weekly sessionsn and school holiday camps. The programs emphasize the principles and values of leadership, nutrition, fitness, and teamwork – and of course having fun!

“The Y looks forward to continuing our basketball legacy, welcoming a talented and enthusiastic group of experienced basketball coaches to the Y NSW, and expanding our positive impact through this dynamic sport,” concluded Mr Kennaugh.
